A little bit of history

The old village of Boisse was built around a castle and tower of the 14th century.

In the 19th century, with the mining development of Decazeville, the left bank was used as a jetty to load coal and transport it to the ports of the Atlantic coast. At the same time, «The glass-making compagny of Penchot » opened in 1841. At the peak of its production, 251 employees worked at the factory, resulting in the construction of workers’ housing and other houses on both sides of the river.

Today

Overlooked by the castle, Boisse-Penchot is today a little village with local shops. The workers’ housing and the glassmakers ‘cross are the witnesses to the industrial period.

The glass workers introduced their favorite sport : the Joute Girondine. The game is simple : 2 teams, one with a blue boat, the other with a red boat, approach each other. Two jousters on an elevated platform, have a walnut pole of 4 or 6 meters long, and fight to push their opponent into the water.
