A little bit of history

An exceptionally picturesque village in the Lot Valley, with its stone-tiled roofs, its church and its situation close to the river Lot. Nearby, is the hamlet “Port d’Agrès” which had an important place in navigation on the river.

The château “Gironde”, high above the valley, controlled the river traffic from the 11th century which included the passage between the Quercy / Rouergue regions and the Auvergne region. The chapel of the château “Gironde” houses o wooden statue of the Virgin dating from the 14th century, a reliquary from the 15th century and beautiful paintings. There are spectacular views from the terraces around the château.

Today

Saint-Parthem is the last village at the entry to the Gorges du Lot. Here, and elsewhere in the valley, market garden production is a very important activity and the riverside facilities offer a relaxing place for all the family. Installed in a former convent of the 18th century, Terra Olt is a scenographic space with film and commentary about man’s cohabitation over the centuries with this nourishing, slow-moving, welcoming and sometimes threatening river: a permanent, magical spectacle in a visual and musical atmosphere.
