A little bit of history

In 1208, the castle of Viviez was built by order of the Count of Toulouse and the Count of Rouergue, Raymond V. In the mid-19th century, Ernest Granier created in Viviez, close to the railway, a huge zinc factory using local coal for its production. In 1871, « Vieille Montagne » (name of the company) resulted in a significant development of the town.

Today

Viviez is still the industrial centre of our locality with factories dedicated to recycled cadmium, carpentry and PVC, development of VM Building Solutions and the SAM, the largest factory in our area, which manufactures products for cars which are exported around the world. Viviez remains a small town surrounded by countryside. Enjoy a pleasant walk alongside the little stream which crosses the village down to its watermill.
